What we practice

E-mail Print PDF

Beliefs are of little value unless they are translated into daily actions. Based on what the Bible teaches, we practice the following lifestyle characteristics:

  • THE BIBLE IS OUR ONLY AUTHORITY

    • The whole Bible was given to us by inspiration form God and is useful to teach us what is true and make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and helps us do what is right(2nd Timothy 3:15). We accept the Bible as our manual for living. "What does the Bible say?", is our first question when we face a decision.

  • OUR CHURCH IS AUTONOMOUS

    • Christ is the head of His Body, the church. He is the source of the Body’s life (Colossians 1:18). We are a non-denominational church, with Jesus Christ as our Head, independent of and free from denominational control. We voluntarily cooperate with other churches to carry out the mission God has called us to fulfill.

  • EVERY MEMBER IS A MINISTER (PRIEST)

    • Christ loves us, and by His death He has freed us from our sins and made us a kingdom of priests to serve God (Revelation 1:6). You are the King’s priests God’s own people, chosen to proclaim the wonderful acts of God (1st Peter 2:9). At PFCC, every Christian is a full time minister. We encourage every member to find a need and meet it, in the church and in the community. Every Christian has direct access to God, without the need for a human mediator, through prayer and Bible reading.

  • TITHING

    • A tithe of everything you produce belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord. (Leviticus 27:30). At PFCC, tithes and offerings are our only means of support. We accept the tithe (10%) of one’s income as the Biblical standard of giving for us today.

  • BELIEVER’S BAPTISM IS BY IMMERSION ONLY

    • For when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ (Colossians 2:12). We practice baptism only by immersion under water as the Biblical norm. We baptize only believers who desire to obey and follow Jesus Christ.

  • SPIRIT-LED LIVING

    • Jesus said, "I am the vine, you are the branches. If you abide in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; but apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). We strive to live every moment of every day being led and supported by the Holy Spirit who lives within us. We depend on the Holy Spirit day to enable us to do the right thing.

  • SHARING CHRIST WITH OTHERS

    • Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have (1st Peter 3:15). Every Christian is responsible to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the people that God brings into his or her life. We practice personal sharing of Christ and inviting our friends to worship services.

What we believe

ABOUT GOD

God is the creator and ruler of the universe. He always was and always will be. He has eternally existed in three personalities Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All three personalities are co-equal and are one God (Genesis 1:26-27; Psalms 90:2).

ABOUT JESUS CHRIST

Jesus Christ is the Son of God and co-equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross as the perfect sacrifice for our sins, rose from the dead, and ascended back to heaven. He will return to earth one day to reign as King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Matthew 1:22-23; John 1:1-5; Hebrews 4:14-16; Romans 1:1-4).

ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He lives in all Christians and provides power for living, understanding the Bible, and guidance for doing what is right. He gives special abilities called spiritual gifts to Christians which allow them to meet the needs of others in Jesus’ name (John 6:7-13; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:38; I Corinthians 2:12).

ABOUT THE BIBLE

The Bible is God’s Word to the human race. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is our source of truth for what we believe and how we live. The Bible is true without any mixture of error. (2nd Timothy 3:16-17).

ABOUT PEOPLE

All human beings are created in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. All people have been tainted by a tendency to rebel and disobey God, which is called “sin”. Sin keeps people from experiencing right relationships with other human beings and with God (Genesis 1:27; Psalms 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2).

ABOUT SALVATION

Salvation is God’s free gift offered to all people. But His gift can only be accepted, never earned by any amount of good deeds. It is only available by trusting in the completed work of Jesus Christ, by turning away from our sinful attitudes and works, and obeying Christ in baptism (Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; Acts 2:36-38; John 14:6; Titus 3:4-7).

ABOUT ETERNITY

All people will exist forever, either separated from God by sin, or united with God through forgiveness and salvation. Hell is eternal separation from God. Heaven is eternal life with God. Both Heaven and Hell are real and eternal places John 3:16; John 14:17; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15; 1st Corinthians 2:7-9.

Baptism

WHAT IS BAPTISM?

Baptism is a simple act of obedience to Jesus Christ. It is not a work and earns you nothing in God’s eyes. It is complete immersion in water, symbolizing your death to sin, the burial of your old life, and your resurrection to a fresh new life with Christ. Baptism is a humble submission to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. In the New Testament church, believers were baptized without debate. It was the standard then and it should be the norm today.

WHO SHOULD BE BAPTIZED?

The people in Jerusalem who heard Peter’s sermon on the Day of Pentecost became painfully aware of their sin. They asked, "...what shall we do?" Peter answered, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins..." (Acts 2:38)

"But when they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized both men and women. Simon himself believed and was baptized. (Acts 8:12-13)

Based on these Biblical accounts and others, people first believed in what Jesus Christ did for them, they repented of their sins, and then they were baptized. According to the Bible, faith in Christ is the prerequisite for baptism.

WHY SHOULD YOU BE BAPTIZED

Jesus commanded it. The last words He spoke on earth were to His followers. He told them to "...go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20)

Belief followed by baptism is the Biblical pattern. "...many of the Corinthians who heard him believed and were baptized." (Acts 18:8; also see Acts 9:10-19; Acts 16:11-15)

Baptism demonstrates your faith in time and space. "...We know that we have come to know Him if we obey His commands." (I John 2:3)

Baptism connects the believer to Jesus. "...all of us who were baptized into Christ were baptized into His death…If we have been united with Him like this in His death, we will certainly also be united with Him in His resurrection." (Romans 6:3-5)

Baptism brings the Holy Spirit into your heart. "...Repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the Holy Spirit as a gift." (Acts 2:38)

WHEN SHOULD YOU BE BAPTIZED?

The most complete account of a baptism is in Acts 8 where a Christian named Philip shared Christ with a eunuch from Ethiopia. "Then Philip began with that very passage of scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, 'Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?'...Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him." (Acts 8:35-38) There really is no good reason to delay being baptized. When a believer declares his faith in Christ, he should be baptized.

Baptisms at PFCC can and do happen any time. We have a baptismal tank that can be prepared within 24 hours. You may be baptized publicly or privately. Public baptisms in one of our worship services give special testimony of the grace and love of Christ for all to witness. To schedule your baptism, call Pastor Gary at (530) 626-0291 or (916) 397-4875.
