A Word From The Pastor

E-mail Print PDF
Perhaps the most powerful force in the world is…….a thought!  What you think determines what you do and who you become.  In computer lingo it’s a principle called GIGO – “Garbage in, garbage out.”  Several New Testament writers spoke about the importance of thinking right, and modern gurus of personal development have picked up on this same principle.  In fact, back in the 1930s, Napoleon Hill wrote the classic that is still a best-seller, Think And Grow Rich, based on the power of our thoughts.

Chicken Soup Series co-author, Jack Canfield writes, “Your thoughts are not just wispy little clouds drifting through your head.  Your thoughts are things.  They are actually measurable units of energy.  Thoughts are biochemical electrical impulses. They are waves of energy that, as far as we can tell, penetrate all time and space.  Your thoughts are powerful.  They are real, they are measurable, they are energy.”  (Jack Canfield’s Key to Living the Law of Attraction, p. 15)

Every thought you think produces a physiological change in your body.  Who you are is the result of all the thoughts you think, feelings you feel, deeds you have done up to this point in your life.  And all your thoughts, emotions, and actions today will produce the you of tomorrow.

That means that it if you care about who you will be tomorrow, you need to learn to think and act in ways that match up with the person you want to be and what you want to experience for the rest of your life.

King Solomon said  of the selfish, stingy man, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he…” (Proverbs 23:7)  Jesus taught his disciples that it isn’t the food that goes into our mouths that corrupts us; rather, it’s the ideas and thoughts that come out of our mouth.  (Matthew 15:11, 18, 20).  And the Apostle Paul declared, “…think about the things that are good and worthy of praise.  Think about the things that are true and honorable and pure and right and beautiful and respected.”  (Philippians 4:8)

Quit taking in the world’s ideals. Quit feasting on the world’s negativity – they’re destroying you and shaping you into a miserable old grump that will never see heaven!    Start thinking God’s thoughts if you want to be God’s man or woman.  This isn’t rocket science.  Florence Shinn summed it up like this:  “The game of life is the game of boomerangs.  Our thoughts, deeds, and words return to us sooner or later with astounding accuracy.”  So the question stands - WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!

“who has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,”
